The following treatment process is a general step by step for standard complete dentures. It is important to note that not every treatment plan will have the same appointment steps. Some treatment plans will have less appointments, others will have more appointments that span over 12 months depending on if you've had teeth pulled recently, or are undergoing implant treatment. Always talk with your denturist to finalize your treatment plan and process.
At your first appointment, want to hear from you. We want to know your main concerns are so that we can address them in your new dentures. Tell us about your denture wearing experience, or if this is your first set, we will go over details to help prepare you with all the info you need. Sometimes dental information can be overwhelming, we will send you home with takehome sheets so that you will be able to reference what we discuss.
If you decide you want to proceed with treatment, we will perform an examination which helps make sure there are no health concerns in the head, neck, and mouth and also to help us plan your personalized treatment plan. Then we will take preliminary impressions of your gums and/or teeth so that we can have models of your gums to prepare for the next appointment.
It is very important that the denture fitting surface has a very accurate fit to your gums or teeth. We will make custom impression trays from the models we made from your first appointment. These trays are hand made for your mouth and assist us to get very accurate copies of your mouth.
At this appointment, your dentures will be in wax. We use these wax dentures to plan your smile and record how your jaws relate to each other. Often when front teeth are missing, the lips and cheeks lose support; we will make markings and adjustments to the wax dentures to prepare for the next appointment. Once the esthetics are planned, we will register your bite. The bite registration allows us to set teeth on a jaw simulator so that bite together your teeth will mesh properly and allow for good function.
We now get the opportunity to doublecheck all of our previous measurements. The teeth will be set in wax, this allows us to confirm that the bite is accurate and that you are absolutely happy with your smile! If you'd like a second opinion, you can bring a family member or a friend. You can even take a photo and go show it to those close to you and then call us to confirm that we can proceed to get the dentures ready for insert!
Today you get to take your teeth home! We will make sure the dentures are fitting properly and do all of our verifications. We will go over homecare and hygiene protocols and give you some take-home information.
