Starting in May, 2024, the Canadian Government will officially activate the Canadian Dental Care plan (CDCP). This will impact many Canadians and we want to make sure you are receiving accurate and up-to-date information. Below are some frequently asked questions regarding the plan, who is eligible and how to apply.

There are three coverage tiers for the CDCP. Each tier will have different coverage rates based on your income. If you qualify for You will receive a package in the mail stating you qualify with directions on how to apply.
The Canadian Dental Care Plan becomes officially active in May, 2024. It is important to note that only seniors 65 and above will have access starting in May 2024. Beginning in June, 2024, Canadians with a valid Disability Tax Credit Certificate and children under 18 will be eligible. All remaining eligible Canadians will not have access to the CDCP until sometime in 2025.
The Canadian Dental Care Plan has based it's coverage on fee guide rates that are lower than the provincial fee guides for dental and denture treatments. Generally, clinics in Alberta base their fees around the Alberta fee guide, which means there still will be a cost for treatment. For example, if you get new dentures in Alberta and have 100% coverage with the CDCP, roughly, only 70-80% of the total fee for your treatment is paid for by the CDCP, leaving the remaining cost to be covered directly by you.

Unfortunately, the answer is no. The CDCP eligibility is only for Canadians who have no access to private dental insurance. Please note, if you opt out of your work insurance to attempt to qualify for the CDCP, you will still be ineligible because you are deemed have access to private insurance coverage.
The Canadian Dental Care Plan will only cover new dentures every 8 years after your initial placement. Once the plan begins May 1st, 2024, you will be able to get your first set with the CDCP at your convenience even if your current dentures are not 8 years old.
As the CDCP unveils its program, they are still working at finalizing a few details. Due to this scale of this program, all partial dentures and immediate dentures will not be eligible until November, 2024.
